Starting on your fitness journey can be scary and intimidating. Something to keep in mind... you have to start somewhere. Everyone starts at the beginning, you are not alone. These are some of our favorite workouts for when you are just starting out.
You can complete these exercises in the comfort of your home or in a gym!
Strength focused
Squats: Great for building lower body strength, main target muscle group is quads. You can start with body weight squats and progress to adding weight.
Lunges: Another movement for lower body strength with the main target muscle group being quads and glutes. Begin with stationary reverse lunges and work towards walking lunges.
Push-ups: A very underrated workout for upper body strength. You can start by doing push ups against the wall, then on your knees, and then a full body push up!
Planks: Perfect for core strength, which aids in all other exercises and posture. Start by holding for 20-30 seconds and increase the duration as you get stronger.
Glute bridges: Main focus is the booty. Start with a double leg glute bridge and then start adding weight on your hips. When you're ready for a bigger challenge, try a single leg glute bridge.
Cardio focused:
Walking: A brisk 20 min walk can make a huge difference in your day. Also think about overall upping your step count for the day by parking further away from the grocery store, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, and pacing around your house when on the phone.
Cycling: This option is very low impact but aids in improving cardiovascular fitness.
Swimming: This is a full body workout and is easy on your joints for just starting out.
Mobility focused:
Static stretches: help to improve flexibility and reduce injury risk.
Dynamic stretches: Things like arm swings, leg kicks, and hip circles.
Yoga: a perfect way to work on better mobility/flexibility, find a class in your area or follow along with a YouTube video.
Happy lifting!
